At this point in their evolution not yet titling Wilfred This First edition hard back binding in publisher's original colour illustrated paper covered boards, strawberry cloth spine. Quarto. 10'' x 8''. Contains 208 pp with 4 colour plates, central coloured double spread,single-tone, double-tone and monochrome illustrations throughout in fair to good condition. The characters Pip, Squeak and Wilfred were created by Bertram Lamb, a journalist on the Daily Mirror, who was born in Islington, London, on 14 May 1887 and died in Switzerland in 1938. He never drew the cartoons, but thought up the idea of the characters which were drawn by Austin Bowen Payne
