This early Dawson illustrated edition, of this Victorian fairy tale of a little chimney-sweep named Tom who turns into a water baby, which served as a subtle satire by Kingsley to condemn child labor practices, and opponents of Darwinism. Dawson (1897-1974), was a Scottish artist best known for her depictions of children, and the rural life, especially in the Shetland Islands. Hard back book in lovely condition . 4 colour plates
