She is considered a moving spirit of the Edinburgh chapter of the Symbolism movement presenting elements of spirituality, the imagination, and dreams. Walton's first major book commission displaying the influence of her native Glasgow (daughter of E. A. Walton, one of the 'Glasgow Boys').
