Mme J. Duché, illustrator Handback: rubbed nd used but intersting French language hardback. Designed with care to make the pages engaging. At the top of each page is a coloured illustration showing uses of the sound studied, as well as little margin drawings and a pattern of objects at the foot. The the letter or letter groups studied appear in large red font, then syllables forming words. Later on, these syllables form sentences but are presented without defining the sentences or words (which does not always lead to the desired pronunciation), then follows a punctuated text in cursive with syllables connected into words. At the bottom of each page is a little math problem of increasing difficulty, presented first with pictures and then with equations. The last 13 pages with coloured illustrated stories and poems to read. Preface explains the method, which includes 576 sturdy letter cards for pupils and 12 posters for the teacher to display. (Not part of this offer) This system, which seems to have been designed by working teachers, is still being published and used 110 years later. Published by J. Chapron (published by the teachers), Imprimeries Oberthur, Rennes, Paris /1906, 1st thus but later printing
