The original publisher's blue cloth, with gilt decorations and lettering on the spine and front cover, tells the story of two young cousins, Dicky and Emmeline Lestrange, and a galley cook who survive a shipwreck in the South Pacific and are stranded on a lush tropical island. The kindly old salt, Paddy Button, takes on the responsibility of caring for the children, but after his eventual death, the children are forced to rely on their resourcefulness and the island's resources alone. Despite some wear to the cloth and a weakened front hinge, the complete text is still intact in this used copy.
